The most exciting thing about Frank McCourt as a teacher goes far beyond lesson plans and teachable subjects. What has made Frank such an exceptional teacher is how personable he is and how he finds way to connect with his students through empathy and culture. Frank attempts to tear down the mask of the "traditional" teacher to show that they're all vulnerable humans who are passionate, empathetic, and eager to learn. He also uses the fact that he's an immigrant to strengthen connections and create a community with all of his students. He can be seen as a role model, an example that being an immigrant is not a limitation, but a strength that allows you to understand and empathize with others who may go through the same struggles. Frank has shown that teaching is not always about the material, but rather instilling the drive for exploration of knowledge. If students feel like they're being heard and are in a community, they will be more inclined to learn; it is our jobs as teachers to inspire and excite our students.
